The Last Amazons - The Origin of the Flame

In the Middle Ages, Aquitaine was territorially close to modern-day New Aquitaine. Eleanor had turned it into a duchy of great cultural and economic influence, which led to much envy on the part of FRANCE and ENGLAND and to the Hundred Years' War in particular. One of the mythical characters of this period is called the BLACK PRINCE. A particularly warlike and cruel character who did a lot of damage in our region.

And it's no secret that Monflanquin, a 13th century fortified town, is home to the house known as the PRINCE NOIR on the Place des Arcades. It was against this backdrop that fantastic tales, legends and myths were born in the bastide. Indeed, the Middle Ages are rightly seen as the period when oral tradition gave form to and conveyed a wealth of tales, legends, poems and popular songs marked by the omnipresence of the marvellous and the supernatural.

The GEM, organisers of the Fêtes Médiévales, will be showcasing this cultural heritage, with 14 different troupes representing a total of 116 artists bringing the Bastide to life with dazzling performances from morning till night.

On the Cap del Pech, some of the performers will be coming to Monflanquin for the first time:

  • DRAKONIA: experts in knightly combat and equestrian tournaments
  • The majestic and free flights of the birds of VOL EN SCENE
  • LES DERNIERES AMAZONES and their dynamic and magical fire show
  • La TRIBU DES MÄSUL for their show DRÄNIA, plunging us into the world of flames in a spellbinding multi-disciplinary show.

Free access to the Bastide throughout the two days to enjoy medieval games, animal shows, troubadours, jugglers, stilt-walkers, flag-wavers, street theatre, grand parades and the medieval market...

The associations' estaminets will be on hand to offer the crowds of onlookers something to satisfy empty stomachs and dry throats (in moderation...).

Costumes from the volunteers' workshop will be available for hire, so that everyone can really get into the spirit of the festival!

Whether you're noble or common, Occitan or Norman, grandpa or baby.

Come and join the party!
